In politics, the ends
justify the means
Jorge[1] is
a good man. He is a devoted husband and father, he respects people and he is an
honest man is his business. But, he decided become a mayor in a small city in
Brazil. His adversaries promoted unsocial advertisement in websites and radio
station against him. For example, they said that he was manipulated by
his wife and he was a mule because he was a very boring man. According to them,
he was not qualified to become a mayor for he was a weak man. As a result, the
large majority of people do not vote for him, obviously he had not too much
money to his campaign. Some months later, the ex-adversaries recognized him
qualification as a good citizen when they discover that he gave up becoming a
politician. Although a large number of politician argue that the politics is
the only way to promote honesty, integrity, and justice, I believe that
in politics; the ends justify the means.
Politics is a violent game, not only a physical
violence, but also moral and psychological violence. There are not spiritual or
moral values when someone or party decide to get the power. Politicians are hypocritical,
so they do everything to achieve their outcomes such as to visit churches or to
kiss and to hug poor people. Some of them are astute they show interest in
civil rights cause but not because they really believe in it. Indeed, they want
to secure a huge number of votes for the next election. However, when
the elections finish they can take illegal money to promote self interest.
Definitely, there is no disinterested action in politics subject.
Hobbes’ words are very accurate when he stated that, Homo homini upus. Not only Hobbes uses metaphors to compare
animals’ world to politics, but also Machiavelli. In fact, there is no space
for innocent rabbits, pets, little birds, in political life. It is not a
situation for a man like Jorge. It demands fox, lion, and wolves because it is
necessary to be astute, strong, to become a smart politician and to get power.
It is essential to have determination to maintain the power because the
adversaries are astute, too.
I am not a politician, but I vote every election. Why?
In my opinion I figure out what parties and politicians can be less corrupt,
even though most of them have self interest during the decisions. I can visit
some websites (www.transparencia.brasil.org.br) to see how my candidates have
voted in our Congress. I know that these men earn money, they have an excellent
life spend our money, but I can decide it. I hate dictators. They are corrupt
too, but no one can control their politic actions. The politic is not a
spiritual church. It is real world no fiction. Although we can control part of
the political corruption, it is an intrinsically true that in politic, the ends
justify the means. In my point of view, there is no chance to change this
situation.
